10 Rules for Making More Money without Increasing Sales

  1. Go Lean
  2. Understand the "Lean" concept of removing waste from your organization.

  3. Realize that everything is a Process
  4. If its’ not written down, its’ not happening the way you think it is.

  5. Use what you already have
  6. From inventory to software to machines, lots of what we need is already in the house.

  7. Make sure you are billing everything
  8. Does your system allow something (or someone) to go out the door without an invoice being produced? In our experience, 20% of service industries don’t capture full billing while 5% of non-service industries have non-billing situations.

  9. Invest in People
  10. The one asset you have that is the most likely to produce returns.

  11. Measure, measure, measure
  12. Measure everything, and then measure the measurements. How do you know where you’re going if you don’t know where you are?

  13. Cherish your current customers
  14. If you don’t, someone else will. Spend more money on Customer Service than Marketing.

  15. Don?t look a Gift Horse in the Mouth
  16. Grants, Incentives, and Inducements are all around you.

  17. Address expenses intelligently
  18. Slash and Burn tactics are like fad diets. Want to cut expenses, pick two expense areas a month and look to advance long term thinking.

  19. Reverse the Communications flow
  20. If its top down, make it bottom up. If its outbound, make it inbound.
